FAQ

What head size range does this fit?

keyboard_arrow_down

The low of head circumference that the Nomad helmet will fit is 530mm (approx. 20 7/8"). The upper end of head circumference is ~610mm (approx. 24"). The larger the head size, the more 'snug' the fitment because of the shock cord. I would classify the size of the helmet fit range as Small to Large+, and I'm collecting data to see if an XL large version is desired.

Does the Nomad helmet fit women?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes! I designed the Nomad helmet to fit a large range of head sizes. My wife has a head circumference of 545mm (21 1/2"), and we frequently go on night hikes together. She has asked for a version that has a pony-tail cutout on the rear plate, and I'll work on that variant once all the design parameters are finalized.

How do I adjust the helmet to fit my head?

keyboard_arrow_down

The only knob to turn (hah) is the rear tension knob which is set in the locked position when the helmet arrives. To unlock the knob, give it a 1/8th turn counter-clockwise and it releases the internal locking mechanism. Then the helmet sections can be expanded with your hands and put on your head.

The fit is good without tightening the tension knob - is tightening the knob required?

keyboard_arrow_down

I find that on my head (578mm ~= 22 3/4") the shock cord is enough to keep the helmet very secure on my head. If I will be doing a high intensity activity, I'll usually tightening the knob to snug, and then give it one or two more clicks.

What attachment mechanism is in place to mount NODs?

keyboard_arrow_down

The front plate has 3 holes to mount the standard ubiquitous NVG mount. The headset can be configured to include a NVG mount with purchase, or you can mount your own.

From there, use your standard G24 adapter and mount your NOD to that. Please ensure that your goggles are secured to the G24 (or whatever device you're using) prior to moving about.

Can I mount a battery pack on the Nomad helmet?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yup! Each helmet comes with a velcro attachment point on the rear plate. The rear counterweight boxes are separate components that attach to the rear plate with magnets and velcro. If you want to use a battery pack, just forego purchasing a counterweight box, and you'll be able to velcro-attach the battery pack directly to the helmet.

Does the helmet work with over-the-ear noise protection?

keyboard_arrow_down

No! At least, not yet.

The initial design intent wasn't designed for non-suppressed target shooting in mind; I wanted to design a low profile, sleek and stealthy helmet that I could use around the neighborhood, while walking the dog, night fishing, stargazing, and night hiking. You can certainly still wear ear plugs if you use a suppressor.

If there is a desire, I may make a variant in the future that will specifically fit ear muffs.

Can the Nomad helmet be used in wet conditions?

keyboard_arrow_down

The main shell material is made out of durable, hard nylon. The foam padding was specifically selected to be closed cell foam to inhibit moisture into the foam. There is nothing inherently wrong with getting the helmet wet, but it may take a bit to dry out as the inner and outer plates aren't hermetically sealed. Be sure to check the specific water resistance ratings of your mounted night vision goggles.

What attachment points are there for external shock cord?

keyboard_arrow_down

Each helmet will come with shock cord looped through the cutout at the crown of the head. This can be used to loop the shock cord over your goggles to provide vibration dampening. Additionally, there are two identical shock coord loop or hook locations on either side of the ear plates.

Are the foam pads replaceable?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yup! The foam pads are attached with velcro to the helmet shell, and additional sets can be purchased for a small fee. Different thicknesses of the foam pads are also available, if you want to specifically tweak fitment in certain areas specific to your head shape.

What is the return policy?

keyboard_arrow_down

Fit and comfort are very important to me; it's the entire reason why I decided to make this helmet in the first place. I also understand that head sizes are incredibly complex and that there will be outliers where the fit just doesn't quite hit the mark.

You have 14 days to try it out, and you can return it after those two weeks if you don't like the fit. You'll pay for shipping, and all I ask is that the helmet be in good condition, and if you could let me know why you decided to return it (bad fit, pressure points at a certain location), so I can then make adjustments to the design if I see a pattern that isn't just an outlier.

If you receive an item with manufacturing defects, please send an email to sales@dusktodawngear.com along with a photo of the defect and I'll issue a return label and replace your item once we receive it.
